The Gardner Menage: A life changing accident

Friday, January 16, 2009
The first update...

As you may have heard, our dad was in a horrible accident on Thursday morning around 1:00 am on I-15. We have created this blog in an attempt to keep everyone informed of his status and progress as time goes by. We realize that there will be many who wish to express their love and concern and also want to hear how things are going. We all are very busy in dealing with this life changing event, but want you all to know how much we appreciate your genuine concern for our family. It will be difficult to answer phone calls and questions, so we kindly ask you to refer to this blog as we will do our best to keep it current. We, as well as our dad, would greatly appreciate any words of encouragement or expressions of love. Please feel free to comment on this blog, as this will serve as a journal for the road we are about to travel down. Thank you again on behalf of our family, especially our dad!

  2. Sonja-

I was out of town when I got a call from Ryan and I am so sorry. It was so much fun to watch the football game with Kirby the other night. He seems to be a very strong and positive man. Our prayers are with him and you guys. We would love to take your kids anytime. Let me know if you would like us to take them this weekend, we are in town and would love to have them.

    Regards,
    Shane Evertson

Just wanted to send our love. I've been able to follow some of Kirby's progress from info provided to us via Joe & Michael. Our hearts and hopes go out to him, please let us know if we can help with anything. Kirby was always kind and made us feel welcome when we associated with him, we are wishing him the best and will remember him in our prayers.

  6. Dear Sonja,

We are so sorry about your dad. We can't even imagine what your whole family must be feeling and going through. We want you to know our thoughts and prayers are with you all. May you find hope, strength, and peace at this difficult time.
Your dad will forever be the name we call any really large, plastic cup filled with a cool drink. We call them "Kirby Cups" after your dad. He always had a huge cup, usually filled with a "slushy"..........those fruity, icy concoctions he and your mom would whip up. And we always remember how amazing it was when we went on trips with your family and we stopped at McDonald's to eat. Our family would each walk out with a hamburger and fries......and maybe a drink if we were lucky. But your dad always bought you kids the works! Hamburgers, fries, drinks, shakes, fruit pies----everything! It was always fun to go with your family. Your dad and mom were full of life and excited to experience each vacation to the max!
We loved living next door to your family for so many years. It was always an adventure. Most of your mom and dad's and our kids were born there and played together happily. It was crazy busy all the time.
We hope your warm memories will keep you going during this time. We hope your dad will be able to heal and enjoy the rest of his life. Please pass on to your whole family how many people care about you all. God bless you.

    Love,
    Dale and Rosalie Losser

  7. hi sonja...

wendy just emailed the losser family and told us about the devastating accident. i'm sure you and your family are just crushed. i feel so bad for everybody and especially your dad. what a tragedy for him and your family.

wanted to send a quick note to let you know that i'm thinking of you all. it's going to be a really rough road ahead, no doubt. and you're all going to need strength and hope. sending my love and a big hug. i'm so sorry.

while i've long since lost touch with the ludvigsons, i have very fond memories of you all and have always kept tabs on everyone through my sister. she asked us to send any fun memories we had...so here's mine. i hope it brings a smile to everyone's face during this dark time.

    1:00 a.m.
the T.J. drive convoy pulls out with 12 sleeping children.
    open maps.
    open road ahead.
endless bathroom stops and filling stations.
    losser passengers swapping with ludvigsons.
    ludvison passengers swapping with lossers.
riding backwards in the backseat of the station wagon...making faces at passersby.
playing blackjack in the back of a moving camper.
grabbing at the CB radio for a turn.
yelling "linda lou how old are you?"
hearing "i am two says linda lou."
    coolers filled with fruity sodas.
brown paper bags stuffed with chips and candy.
smiles and cheer as we rolled through the desert on a wondrous half-day voyage to lake tahoe.

while this memory is about all of us...it's a memory that our parents gave us. your mom...and your dad. it's about the spirit, energy and adventure within them to have pulled off what now seems to me an impossible feat of a vacation. it's about them scraping together what little money they had back then to show us a good time. it's about their giving nature.

when you can, please give my regards to your dad...and say hello to your family from me.

    xo,
    jason

    p.s.
attached is a picture of one of many losser-ludvigson escapades...fireworks, trafalga, lagoon, sugarhouse swimming pool? who knows. all of us stuffed seat-beltless and carefree in the losser pickup truck...ready for our next adventure.
